Star Café Alerts

As you become involved in the Star Café, one of the most useful tools to support your efforts is Alerts, which provide e-mail notification to you when there is activity in a web site that you are interested in.

·    You can use Alerts to keep up with activity in your Star Café Community rooms

·    From the web page that interests you, you can select Alert me under “Actions” to access a “New alerts” page

·    On the “New alerts” page there are options to determine what to be alerted about and how often

·    When you get an Alert e-mail, it will contain links to the relevant items that have been updated

C. Details:

As you use the Star Café, a major challenge will be keeping up with changes and activity in your communities. One of the tools available to support your efforts is Alerts, which provide e-mail notification when there is activity in a web page you are interested in. When you get an Alert e-mail, it will contain links to items that have been updated.

To set up an alert:

1.  Select the web part (a section of your web page) you want to receive alerts for by clicking on the title at the top or the name in the Navigation area on the left of the web page.

2.  In the left hand column under “Actions”, click on Alert me.

3.  On the “New alerts” page, you can tailor your alerts:

a. “Change type” allows you to determine what you will be alerted about; all changes, added items, changed items, or deleted items

b. “Alert Frequency” determines how often you will receive alerts; immediately, daily summary, or in a weekly summary

4.  Click on OK to activate the alert.

 

To view, modify or delete the alerts you have established:

1.  Click on Admin in the menu bar of the room in question.

2.  Select Alert me under “Actions” to access the “New alerts” page.

3.  On the “New alerts” page, in the “Alert Frequency” section, select View my existing alerts on this site.

4.  Click on the name of the web part to be modified. This opens the “Edit Alert” page (same option as “New Alerts” page).

5.  Adjust the appropriate setting (as described above).

 

The Alerts pages also allow updates to your email address. Note that this change is system-wide for all Star Café rooms, not just the current room. Liberal use of Alerts will keep you up-to-date on activity in the rooms which interest you in the Star Café.
