Rhode Island Out of Iraq (RIOI)
The goal of RIOI is to END RHODE ISLAND’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WAR IN IRAQ. RIOI is a coalition of Rhode Islanders dedicated to peace, and in particular to ending the war in Iraq. Coalition members actively pursue an end to Rhode Island's contributions to the war by engaging public officials, candidates, and the media. We do this by attending public appearances of these decision-makers, by writing letters, and by appearing as individuals in print and broadcast media.
Ground Rules of Participation
RIOI members participate as individual Rhode Island voters and citizens. Our participation is governed by these ground rules:
1- Participation in RIOI is voluntary and free of cost.
2- Coalition action is related to the issue of US withdrawal from Iraq and, more specifically, changing the positions of elected officials to strong opposition to the war in Iraq. Because the coalition is made up of a diverse and wide set of groups, participants do not bring in any other issues, even if particular groups see a relationship between the war in Iraq and these other issues. Individuals may also disagree about the desirability of various exit plans and can bring these opinions up to political officials as they see fit.
3- Individual participation in events is polite, but forceful. We are part of the anti-Iraq War majority of Rhode Island. We strive at all times to represent ourselves as individual constituents and voters, to present ourselves neatly and cleanly, to politely interact with political officials and other individuals at the event, and to not engage in actions that disrupt or impede the event being attended.
